FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
We will soon be doing our strategic planning for future priorities, within our college ethos and objectives. We will have input from stakeholders through surveys, discussions and external consultants. Also, we are learning from other Heritage Colleges in our upcoming Principal/ Chairman conferences.
At the core of your school is our Christadelphian community. This is the reason the school exists, as it is tough raising the next generation of our brothers and sisters in this challenging, self-centred, ungodly world to love God and his word and so develop godliness in your children. We are invested together, collectively and individually with you, to equip our children with the character, knowledge, and skills in their learning journey, supporting you with social dynamic issues as they grow towards an independent active adult life.
A critical factor in our planning is to learn what you think. It is a time when you can take stock of where we are and where you want us to go and suggest how that gap can be bridged.
I truly thank all of you who have completed the MySchool Survey and urge you if you have not done so already, to take the opportunity to have your say! For we know that ‘through wisdom is a house builded; and by understanding it is established’ (Prov 24 v 3). Your voice is important to us as we seek even greater levels of satisfaction for you and your child by addressing your concerns and building on our successes. The closing date is 28th August 2022.

Staff Changes
Revital Aharon has left Heritage College after teaching Hebrew to our Primary students for 7 ½ years. We will miss her dedication to her role and thank her for her language contribution to our College. We wish her all the best for the future and hope that she will come back and visit us every now and again.
Community Feedback
"It has been my pleasure to be placed in such a wonderful school. The staff here are so kind and welcoming. They have helped me a lot, not only with teaching. Heritage College makes me feel that it is inclusive, everyone is treated equally.
What surprised me most was the students here. There is no misbehaviour at this school, and I didn't see any argument in and after class. I have loved working with them for the last nine weeks and I really enjoyed teaching here.'

The Resilience Project - Empathy
Secondary Homegroup classes are enjoying discussions and activities from The Resilience Project and this week we are focusing on Empathy and Kindness. Empathy is our ability to put ourselves in the shoes of others to feel and see what they do. We practice this through being kind and compassionate towards other people. Empathy aligns with our school value of Responsibility. When we empathise with others, we can then take responsibility to care for each another with compassion.
‘Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.’ Thess 5:11
‘Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.’ Prov 16:24
‘Put on then, as God's chosen ones ... compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.’ Col 3:12
Brain imaging data shows that being kind to others registers in the brain as more like eating chocolate than like fulfilling an obligation to do what’s right (e.g. eating brussels sprouts)! Research shows that practicing empathy, such as performing acts of kindness, taps into our brain’s ‘mirror neurons’, builds compassion and our behaviour becomes more social and community-based.
Our Year 11 Home Group class has been putting Empathy into practice with their weekly communal prayer. Each Wednesday they begin the day by thinking of someone they know who is having a tough time and they say a communal prayer together, with each student mentioning a person or a circumstance that they want to pray about.
Earlier this year we held a fundraiser for people in the Lismore area who had been affected by the floods. Students and teachers dressed up in blue and donated money for our brethren and sisters in that area. This was a practical opportunity to think of others, show empathy for their situation, and provide some assistance.

Here’s an activity to practise empathy and kindness:
- Reflect on someone in your life who could benefit from an act of kindness today. It could be a friend who would love some affirmation about their work or a family member who would love a phone call or text message.
- Make a plan for who you are going to give an act of kindness to, and what you are going to do.
- If you want to add accountability to your plan, share it with someone else and encourage them to do the same thing.
- Follow up with each other in a few days’ time, to ask how it went!
